Job summary

Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools is seeking a Speech Language Pathology Assistant to provide speech-language services to students under the direction of a licensed SLP. Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 30 hours in Communication Sciences/Disorders or related field (required).
• Job related experience in schools, early childhood education, or pediatrics preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Reliable transportation required given potential travel between schools.

Responsibilities

• Follows a treatment plan to provide speech and/or language therapy under supervision of SLP.
• Creates treatment activities and prepares materials under supervision of SLP.
• Collects accurate data to document student performance on IEP goals.
• Collaborates with speech-language pathologists, teachers, therapists, and administrators.
• Attends meetings (IEP, parent-teacher) as assigned.
• Performs other related duties to ensure efficient functioning of the unit.

JOB GOAL: The job of Speech-Language Pathology Assistant is done for the purpose/s of providing speech-language services to students with communication disabilities to minimize adverse impact on student success under the direction of a KS licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP).

Qualifications:

• B.S./B.A. in Communication Sciences/Disorders or a related field (preferred)


• High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 30 hours at an institution of higher education in Communication Sciences/Disorders or a related field (required)


• Job related experience in schools, early childhood education, or pediatrics preferred


• Strong written and verbal communication skills


• Reliable transportation required given the potential for travel between schools to service student needs.

Essential Functions:

• Follows a treatment plan to provide speech and/or language therapy to students with communication impairments under the direction of the supervising SLP.


• Creates treatment activities and prepares materials to address a variety of speech and language impairments/needs under the direction of the supervising SLP.


• Collects accurate, objective data to document student performance on speech/language IEP goals and objectives.


• Collects subjective information to describe student’s participation in therapy sessions


• Works collaboratively with a variety of professionals including, but not limited to, speech-language pathologists, general education teachers, special education teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, paraprofessionals, administrators, etc.


• Participates in departmental meetings and in-service training for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.


• Attends meetings with the supervising KS licensed SLP (e.g., IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences) as assigned.


• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION: Maintains communication with school personnel to
enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties. Performs other related work as required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete
variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and write daily treatment summaries, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, and students.
