Job summary

Springtree Health & Rehabilitation Center in Roanoke, VA is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our rehabilitation team. You will evaluate residents, develop treatment plans, and provide therapy to improve communication and swallowing function.

Qualifications

• Active unencumbered licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in Virginia.
• Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Highly organized and detail oriented.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate residents to assess speech, language, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing function.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on each resident’s plan of care and physician orders.
• Provide therapeutic interventions to improve communication skills, including speech production, language comprehension, expression, and voice quality.
• Administer dysphagia therapy and recommend appropriate diet textures and liquid consistencies to ensure safe swallowing.
• Conduct clinical swallow evaluations and collaborate on instrumental assessments when indicated.
• Provide cognitive-communication therapy to address memory, attention, problem-solving, and executive function deficits.
• Supervise, coordinate, and direct the work of SLP Assistants and clinical fellows as applicable.
• Explain procedures and treatments to gain residents’ cooperation and reduce apprehension.
• Monitor and document resident progress, modifying treatment plans as needed to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Maintain residents’ medical records with thorough documentation of evaluations, treatments, progress notes, and response to therapy.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care and rehab goals.
• Educate residents, families, and staff on communication strategies, swallowing precautions, and post-discharge maintenance.
• Recommend and train residents on AAC devices and assistive technology as needed.
• Observe emotional stability and prepare residents for continuing care after discharge.
• Perform other duties as required to provide exceptional care.
