Job summary

Texas NeuroRehab Center is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist for its Post-Acute Brain Injury Program. The role focuses on evaluating and treating cognitive-communicative disorders and dysphagia in adolescents and adults, with duties including potential float coverage to inpatient rehab units.

Qualifications include an appropriate Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Texas licensure, CPR certification, and completion of Clinical Fellowship Year.

  • Support community reintegration and evaluation for returning patients to home and community settings.

Responsibilities

Texas NeuroRehab is a specialized treatment facility located ten minutes from downtown Austin on 67 wooded acres and has operated as a medical and behavioral healthcare facility for over 80 years. Today, Texas NeuroRehab Center provides complex medical and brain injury rehab for ages 13 years and older and neurobehavioral residential treatment services for children and adolescents. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges.

Texas NeuroRehab Center is currently accepting applications for Speech-Language Pathologists, full-time, in our Post-Acute Acute Brain Injury Program. Would report primarily on the Post Acute Brain Injury (PABI) unit that focuses on community reintegration along with opportunities to treat in IPR/Sage units.

Candidates will possess skills in the rehabilitation of neurologically impaired patients, with proficiency in the evaluation and treatment of speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. Focus of service provision will be centered on evaluating and treating cognitive-communicative abilities with goals of returning to the home and community settings.

Candidates may also be asked to float to TNC’s medical inpatient rehabilitation program as coverage needs dictate.

Texas NeuroRehab Center’s PABI Program specializes in provision of rehabilitation services to traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, stroke, and spinal cord injury populations, ages 18 and older. Licensed as an Assisted Living Facility, our PABI Program prides itself in positive outcomes and patient/family satisfaction.

Qualifications

The following are the job requirments for the SLP position:

Skills Knowledge and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of adolescent and adult speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders, and treatment strategies associated with brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological disorders.

Education: M.A., M.S., M.Ed., SLPD, or Ph.D in Speech-Language Pathology

Licensure: Current SLP licensure in the State of Texas. Certification in CPR.

Experience: Completion of Clinical Fellowship Year.

Physical / General Requirements: Able to sustain activity eight hours a day. Able to remain on feet eight hours per day. Able to confront a dangerous and aggressive patient. Able to verbally communicate to de-escalate a crisis situation, explain treatment to the patient to allow active participation, and to protect self and others from aggressive patients or other incidents. Able to restrain patients by individual or team restraint per facility policy. Able to frequently lift, carry, and lower 50 pounds without assistance. Able to kneel, stoop, bend, and pull various weights or items (up to 50 pounds).Able to push patients in wheelchairs up and down hills, pursue running patients, and traverse hospital grounds. Able to transfer patients to and fromwheelchairs. Able to visually observe so as to convey patient behavior verbally or in writing. Able to write legibly and grammatically so as to convey patient behavior and information in the patient’s medical record. Able to read medical records and other reports. Able to use hands repetitively. Ability to use hands to grasp, type, and write (fine motor skills). Regular and expected attendance. Hearing and vision sufficient to perform essential job functions.
