Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must hold a valid Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology license and meet the certification requirements established by the Virginia Department of Education. A Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders is required. The candidate must possess strong assessment, diagnostic, and intervention skills to address communication disorders in school-aged children. Effective communication, collaboration, and organizational skills are essential. The SLP must also demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, staff, families, and outside agencies to support student success.

DESCRIPTION

The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating students with communication disorders that impact their ability to access the curriculum and participate in the educational environment. The SLP collaborates with educators, parents, and specialists to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that address each student’s unique needs. This role requires the ability to provide both direct and consultative services to ensure students achieve their communication and academic goals.

GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

  • Assess and evaluate students with speech, language, voice, fluency, and social communication disorders.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) to address identified communication needs.
  • Provide direct intervention services to students in individual and group settings.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff to support students' communication skills within the educational environment.
  • Conduct screenings to identify students who may require speech and language support.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of evaluations, progress reports, and IEP updates.
  • Participate in eligibility meetings, IEP meetings, and other required team discussions.
  • Provide training and resources to staff and families to support communication development.
  • Utilize appropriate technology and tools to enhance speech and language interventions.
  • Stay current with research-based practices in speech-language pathology and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

SUPERVISION

The Speech-Language Pathologist reports to the designated school administrator in conjunction with the Department of Student Services central office administrators.

WORK CONDITIONS

The Speech-Language Pathologist works in a school environment, providing services in classrooms, therapy rooms, and other educational settings. The role requires mobility to move between school sites as needed. The position may involve moderate lifting of materials and equipment, as well as working with students who may exhibit challenging behaviors. Regular communication with students, parents, staff, and outside service providers is a key component of this role. Standard school hours apply, with occasional extended hours for meetings, consultations, or professional development.

Position Type: Part-Time

Salary: $36.28 to $55.66 Per Hour
