Job summary

Gersh Autism Academy in New York is seeking an experienced Speech Therapy Lead to oversee and enhance the speech-language therapy services for students aged 5–21. You will lead a team of Speech-Language Pathologists and collaborating professionals to ensure high-quality interventions, evaluations, and family support.

The role emphasizes program development, staff training, and implementing evidence-based practices, with responsibilities including mentoring clinicians, ensuring documentation

Qualifications

• Master's degree in SLP and NY licensure required.
• CCC-SLP and ASHA certification preferred; TSSLD advantageous.
• At least 5 years direct school-based SLP experience with leadership.
• Experience mentoring SLPs, CFs, or SLPA staff.
• Strong clinical skills in assessment, treatment planning, and therapy.
• PROMPT Training is a plus; additional certifications such as AAC or autism are beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct speech therapy services.
• Support and mentor therapists within the department which may include supervisory hours.

Job description

Gersh Autism Academy is seeking an experienced and dedicated Speech Therapy Lead to oversee and enhance the speech and language therapy services provided to children ages 5-21. This leadership role will involve collaborating with a team of Speech Language Pathologists and other professionals to ensure the highest quality of therapy interventions, evaluations, and family support. The Speech Therapy Lead will be responsible for program development, staff training, and the implementation of evidence-based practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct speech therapy services.
• Support and mentor therapists within the department which may include supervisory hours
• Oversee therapy documentation and compliance.
• Coordinate services with other departments or school teams.
• Help manage caseload assignments and students' plan of care
• Assisting with department-wide administrative tasks
• Auditing of SOAP notes, progress marks, and annual reviews

Required Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
• TSSLD certification preferred
• Active and valid license to practice as an SLP in NY state.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) issued by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
• 5+ years of direct experience as a practicing speech-language pathologist, preferably in a school setting
• Leadership or Supervisory Experience as a SLP is a must
• Experience mentoring, training, or supervising other SLPs, CFs, or support staff (SLPAs).
• Strong Clinical Skills
• Expertise in assessment, treatment planning, and therapy for a wide range of speech, language, and communication disorders.
• Excellent Communication and Organizational Skills
• Additional certifications in areas like AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), autism, or any other specified area are a plus
• PROMPT Training

Working Conditions:

• Location: Onsite at our campus in the Bronx, or any other NY location as needed.
• Must be willing to travel to other locations
• Monday - Friday / 8:00AM-3:30PM (and once a week until 4PM for a team meeting)

Physical requirements:

• Must be able to keep students safe from themselves and others and, in some cases, may need to implement CPI (therapeutic holds) procedures.
• Must be able to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations and, in some cases, be able to lift a child.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the workday
• Ability to lift (at least 50-65 pounds), assist, and/or physically support students, which may include lifting or guiding students of varying sizes
• Ability to physically intervene when required to ensure safety (per CPI training)
• Ability to remove oneself and/or others from unsafe situations quickly
• Ability to maintain attention and focus in a dynamic, high-stimulation environment
• Ability to multi-task and shift priorities quickly
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making, particularly in high-pressure or safety-sensitive situations
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain professional relationships
• Ability to perform duties under stress, including during behavioral escalations
