Job summary

Endeavor Health is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist I for the inpatient unit at Swedish Hospital in Chicago, IL. This full‑time role offers 40 hours per week, with hours 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, plus rotating weekends and holidays.

You will assess and treat patients, document evaluations and progress, educate families, and collaborate with physicians and care teams to ensure quality patient outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an ASHA-approved program.
  • CCC-SLP certification or in process; pursuing state licensure in Illinois.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently and with teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality speech therapy services including assessment, treatment, family education, referrals, re-evaluations and discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and billing documentation as required; ensure co-signature when applicable.
  • Report patient progress at staffing and conferences; communicate with care teams and physicians.
  • Teach evaluation and treatment procedures to hospital staff and students; participate in community education.

Hourly Pay Range:

$32.60 - $48.90 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights:
  • Position: Speech Language Pathologist I, Inpatient, Days
  • Location: Chicago, IL, Swedish Hospital
  • Full-time: 40 hours per week
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm, Rotating weekends; Rotating holidays
  • Required Travel: no
What you will do:
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws that apply to job and area of responsibility.
  • Provides quality Speech Therapy services to patients including assessment, VFS, treatment intervention, patient family education, referrals, re-evaluations and discharge planning based on the age and developmental status of the patient. Service provision may include direct, group, monitored and consultative approaches.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate patient records including evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries and billing as required by Medicare, third party payers, and JCAHO/HFAP. Assures co-signature on notes and evaluations if waiting on licensure exam results.
  • Reports on patient/resident progress at staffing and other conferences.
  • Teaches appropriate speech therapy evaluation and treatment procedures to various hospital and community groups, students in allied professions and supportive personnel.
  • Consistently offers ideas and works with little direction.
What you will need:
  • Education: Graduate from a school of Speech Pathology with a Masters Degree from an accredited college or university approved by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Certification: Holds or is working towards a Certificate of Clinical Competence of the American-Speech-Hearing Association. Holds or is working towards State of Illinois Licensure in speech-language pathology. Must have CPR certification.
  • Experience: Has had supervised clinical experience in a hospital, rehabilitation or similar pathology setting.
  • Unique or Preferred Skills: Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with physicians, other health professionals, patients, family members, and the community. Must demonstrate good organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work effectively in an independent environment.
