Job summary

Job description

Position Overview

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) identifies students with communication disorders and provides assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic services to minimize the impact of speech and language impairments on educational performance. This position collaborates with educators, families, and related service providers to support student success and provides direction and guidance to support staff involved in speech and language services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess students’ communication skills including articulation, fluency, voice, and expressive and receptive language to determine eligibility for services.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and therapy interventions based on assessment results.
  • Provide speech and language therapy services to students individually or in small groups according to IEP goals.
  • Coordinate meetings and evaluation processes including screenings, IEP meetings, and parent conferences.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, physicians, and other professionals regarding student needs and progress.
  • Provide training and guidance to support staff assisting with speech and language therapy services.
  • Instruct students in the use of assistive communication technologies such as augmentative communication devices and FM systems.
  • Interpret medical and evaluation reports to support appropriate treatment planning.
  • Maintain documentation including progress reports, treatment plans, activity logs, and Medicaid billing documentation.
  • Conduct site visits including multiple school locations and home visits when necessary to deliver services.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and treatment documentation related to therapy services.
  • Research intervention methods, assessment tools, and resources to support student communication needs.
  • Respond to inquiries from staff, parents, and students regarding speech and language services.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and professional development activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Responsibility

Works under limited supervision providing speech and language services and coordinating therapy programs while directing support staff when appropriate.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in school environments with occasional travel to multiple school sites and home visits. Duties may involve moderate physical activity and exposure to communicable illnesses.

Experience

Job-related experience within a specialized field required.

Education

Master’s degree in a job-related area with an emphasis in Speech Language Pathology.
