Job summary

Northbridge Public Schools is seeking a school-based Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to diagnose and treat speech, language, and communication disorders in students within the elementary level through grade 5, with a caseload to be determined.

The SLP will assess students, develop IEPs, provide direct therapy, monitor progress, and collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support educational and social success. Starting Aug 25, 2026, full-time position.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid certification/licensure with the Board of Registration for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology in Massachusetts (MA DESE licensure).
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts and federal special education regulations and test administration.

Responsibilities

  • Assess students’ speech and language abilities and develop IEPs.
  • Provide direct therapy services and monitor progress.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents and other professionals to support students’ academic and social success.
  • Maintain detailed records and ensure compliance with standards and regulations.

Job Description

A school-based speech-language pathologist (SLP) works with students to diagnose and treat speech, language, and communication disorders. Responsibilities include assessing students' speech and language abilities, developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), providing direct therapy services, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support students' academic and social success. The SLP also monitors progress, maintains detailed records, and ensures compliance with educational standards and regulations.

  • Provide appropriate speech-language services at the elementary level, preschool-grade 5 (specific caseload to be determined)
  • Evaluate referred students, administer, and interpret diagnostic testing, develop required reports, and present findings at Team meetings
  • Provide intervention that is appropriate to the age and learning needs of each individual student and is selected through an evidence-based decision-making process
  • Employ a continuum of service delivery models in the least restrictive environment for students with disabilities, and that they provide services to other students as appropriate
  • Maintain liaison with appropriate community agencies, administrators, teachers, and parents concerned with the students
  • Plan and develop therapeutic intervention goals that are educationally relevant and will be used in students’ educational programs
  • Facilitate in-service education and professional development for staff members, as appropriate
  • Supervise and monitor the job performance of any assigned speech and language assistants.
  • Monitor program goals by teaching and supervising other professionals and paraprofessionals who are involved with the implementation of the intervention procedures
  • Provide augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder or progressive neurological disorders
  • Provide consultation and/or direct services to address student needs, professional needs, and system needs in order for the system to achieve its goals and objectives.
  • Complete documentation as required by federal, state, and local agencies. Activities may include Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, Medicaid billing, report writing, and treatment plan/therapy log development.
  • Perform other duties that are consistent with his/her professional training that the Director of Pupil Services and Building Principals may require.

Job Requirements
  • Master’s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university. Possess and maintain valid certification with the Board of Registration for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Valid MA DESE licensure in Speech, Language, and Hearing Disorders (All Levels). Knowledge of Massachusetts and federal special education regulations. Background in test administration, interpretation, and educational implications. Experience working in an educational setting or other appropriate experience with school-aged child with speech, language, and communication disorders.
  • Master degree preferred.
