Job summary

Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District is seeking a SPED Teacher Assistant to support students with special education needs and assist in implementing IEP components. The role involves helping with daily classroom activities and maintaining student confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Met a rigorous standard of quality as determined by a formal assessment (Mississippi WorkKeys).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in all activities to meet the needs of students.
  • Assist in implementing each child’s IEP components.
  • Assist with physical needs (toilet procedures, feeding, individual needs).
  • Report regularly to assigned work location and notify supervisor of absences.
  • Perform other duties related to serving special education students as assigned.
  • Promote a positive image of the district program and maintain professionalism.
  • Demonstrate growth by participating in professional development.
  • Adhere to safety rules and confidentiality of student information.

Job Description
  • Assist the special education or regular education teacher in all phases of classroom activities to meet the needs of special education students.
  • Assists the special education teacher in implementing the components of each child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Assists the special education teacher in providing for the physical needs of the children in the class such as helping with toilet procedures, assisting in feeding the children, and attending to their individual needs.
  • Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties related to serving special education students as assigned by the special education director, teacher and/or principal.
  • Professionalism:
  • Promotes a positive image of the school district program to the public.
  • Exhibits high expectations for self and students.
  • Demonstrates continued growth by participation in professional development activities.
  • Adheres to all safety procedures, rules, and policies to ensure the well‑being of all students.
  • Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies principal or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all student information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have completed at least 2 years of study (48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education; or
  • Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; or
  • Met a rigorous standard of quality as determined by a formal assessment. (Mississippi Test: ACT WorkKeys - Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics and Writing Subtests)
