Job summary

Dysart Unified School District in Surprise, AZ seeks a paraeducator to support the Special Education Teacher in implementing Individual Education Programs and assisting students with disabilities within the general education curriculum.

You will follow lesson plans, collaborate with staff, maintain FERPA confidentiality, help prepare instructional materials, and participate in district professional development and Medicaid-related record-keeping.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • AA degree or 60 college credits or approved Dysart exam required.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in planning activities/work assignments for individual students.
  • Assists the teacher in carrying out activities/work assignments for students across the continuum of services.
  • Follows a lesson plan, chart or guide by a Special Education teacher.
  • Consults frequently with staff about the needs, suggestions, questions, problems and progress of the students.
  • Maintains all aspects and provision of confidentiality related to FERPA.
  • Assists the teacher in the implementation and maintaining student classroom and behavior management.
  • Maintains adequate and legible records concerning students whom they support.
  • Assists the teacher with preparation of instructional materials.
  • Attends district professional development.
  • Participates in the Medicaid reimbursement program which includes maintaining logs on students and attending scheduled training.
  • Assists students with activities of daily living, to include hygiene and toileting/diapering.
  • Establishes and maintains good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

SUMMARY

Assist the Special Education Teacher with the implementation of the Individual Education Plan for students with various types of disabilities and assist students with disabilities in general education curriculum on a continuum of services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participates in planning activities/work assignments for individual students.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • AA degree OR 60 college credit hours OR successful completion ofDysart approved exam.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Obtainand maintain First Aid/CPR certification from an accredited agency (must be in person certification; online training is not acceptable).
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
KNOWLEDGE OF

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions

Work is routinely performed in an indoor classroom environment.
