Job summary

University Hospitals seeks a detail‑oriented Specimen Processor Histology to support the anatomic pathology workflow. You will accessions specimens, perform processing, and help maintain PHI security and policy adherence in a hospital laboratory setting.

The role emphasizes organization, reliability, and teamwork in handling specimens and equipment. High school diploma or GED is required, with an associate degree preferred; prior medical lab experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Accessions specimens for cytology and/or surgical pathology.
  • Performs specimen processing for further workup in the anatomic pathology laboratory.
  • Triages specimens within the department.
  • Maintains equipment, re-stocks supplies and reagents.
  • Recognition and preliminary resolution of problem cases.
  • Performs miscellaneous maintenance tasks within the department.

A Brief Overview

Assists the anatomic pathology lab by performing pre-analytic, post-analytic, and support functions.

What You Will Do
  • Accessions specimens for cytology and/or surgical pathology.
  • Performs specimen processing for further workup in the anatomic pathology laboratory.
  • Triages specimens within the department.
  • Maintains equipment, re-stocks supplies and reagents.
  • Recognition and preliminary resolution of problem cases.

Education
  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and
  • Associate's Degree (Preferred)

  • Previous Medical Laboratory experience or strong science background (Preferred)
