Job summary

American Health Associates, Inc. in Indianapolis, IN, seeks a Specimen Accessioner to accurately enter patient demographics and test information into the computer system and to process samples for both in-house and reference lab testing.

The role requires troubleshooting, proper sample preparation, and delivering specimens to the correct department while maintaining a clean, safe work environment and contributing to quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Data entry experience required.
• Experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with co-workers, clients, patients and/or visitors.

Responsibilities

• Enter patient demographic and test information accurately into the computer system.
• Process and accession laboratory samples for in-house testing and reference lab testing.
• Troubleshoot problems when necessary.
• Set-up and prepare samples for testing and ensure that specimens are delivered to proper department for testing and placed on the instrument.
• Must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment, wear PPE, and support safety in the workplace.
• Ensure specimen stability and identify specimen errors and correct problems with proper documentation.
• Support Laboratory goals, policies, procedures, and philosophy.
• Prepare samples and paperwork to be sent to appropriate reference lab or AHA location.
• Scan requisitions, run missing requisition report, and follow-up.
