Qualifications

  • B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent education to meet NYS DOH technologist standards.
  • ASCP preferred or NCA certification.
  • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license required.
  • Blood Bank experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks.
  • Performs technical procedures in Molecular Pathology, Tumor Cytogenomics, Flow Cytometry as outlined in the policy and procedure manual(s).
  • Performs periodic/scheduled and as needed maintenance on instrumentation/equipment; maintains documentation including remedial action for problems encountered.
  • Performs quality control and calibration procedures; verifies in LIS; records on QC logs; signs logs.
  • Ensures all required QC/calibration procedures are completed; signs records per shift; ensures data is documented properly.
  • Maintains records per regulatory requirements (card files, requisitions, LIS documentation, statistics).
  • Consults with Supervisor or Pathologist on important results; notes inadequate volume or abnormal appearance; communicates critical values.
  • Prioritizes work to meet turnaround time; notifies supervisor if delays occur.
  • Assists in inventory control to ensure supplies; maintains proper storage of reagents; dated usage.
  • Participates in other projects/duties as assigned by Supervisor/Lab Management.
  • Demonstrates knowledge to provide care appropriate to patient age; may perform other duties as needed.
