Job description

$19.75-$27.75/Hourly

The primary role of the Dental Assistant is to support the success of the clinicians through effective delivery of the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), thus creating a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties, preparing patients for oral examination and assisting other dental professionals in providing treatment to the teeth, mouth, and gums. The role requires efficient teamwork with co‑workers, specialty‑dental assistants, patients, and front‑office staff, maintaining active listening, clear communication, and constructive problem‑solving.

Specialty Dental Assistants

If assigned within specialty areas including Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics or Pediatric, the assistant will primarily support clinicians within that specialty and may need additional training.

Responsibilities
  • Perform functions in accordance with the applicable state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
  • Actively participate in the PPE by keeping patients focused on optimal treatment while attending to their individual needs.
  • Escort patients to/from the front desk and introduce them to other team members as appropriate.
  • Communicate with front and back office teams to ensure schedules run smoothly.
  • Maintain a clean, sterile, and cheerful environment.
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment; clean each operatory per state infection‑control guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for treatment and assist the dentist to enable efficient, quality care.
  • At the clinician’s direction, complete radiographs and intra‑oral pictures efficiently and timely.
  • Prepare tray setups for procedures and maintain adequate supply levels in each operatory, replenishing as needed.
  • Keep patients’ mouths dry and clear using suction or other devices.
  • Instruct patients on post‑operative and general oral health care as directed.
  • Record patient charting and clinicians’ notes in the digital patient chart as directed.
  • Support patient care by presenting records, consents, and health history to the clinician before treatment.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Work closely with the Lead Dental Assistant to ensure adequate clinical supplies.
  • Learn and demonstrate how to operate technology and explain it to others.
  • Participate in daily huddles, monthly team meetings, and any required meetings.

  • Demonstrate stewardship of the PDS Brand, making decisions consistent with the PDS Brand framework.
  • Implement the Perfect Patient Experience process to gain Patients for Life.
  • Maintain professional appearance and demeanor per company policies; address others respectfully.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory bodies.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED and required state training courses for certification, licensure, or registration.
  • Certificates, licenses, or registrations mandated by state.
  • Specialty Assistants must possess a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance, verified by background checks.
  • Specialty Assistants must travel to multiple offices per day with reliable transportation.
  • Alternate transportation arrangements are acceptable if no license is available.
  • Travel may be planned or unplanned and may change without notice.
Preferred
  • One‑year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or equivalent education and experience.
