Job summary

Tcn Behavioral Health Services is seeking a dedicated advocate to respond to emergencies, provide mobile advocacy, and support trafficking and domestic violence survivors at a residential shelter. The role emphasizes trauma‑informed care and collaboration with local services.

The position may involve evenings/weekends, fielded client contacts, and on‑site shelter duties including safety checks and activity planning. A driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Associate's Degree preferred.
• Experience: 2 years in related field preferred.
• License: Valid Ohio Driver’s License and reliable transportation required.
• Cell phone required for on-call and advocacy work.

Job Details

Location: Serving Logan/Champaign County – OH

Salary: $17.00 hourly

Primary Responsibilities

• Promotes transparency, teamwork, and trauma‑informed care as guiding principles of professional conduct.
• Responds to emergency calls from victims, law enforcement, hospital ER and provides mobile advocacy based on the needs of each emergency. May assist lead advocate in providing support services.
• Crosstrains in legal advocate services to assist with ongoing situations for victims seeking protection orders or other court concerns.
• Plans quarterly activities for victims, providing support, education, training, resources, or trauma‑informed care for victim/survivors who have experienced teen dating violence, sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking and stalking overseas and monitors activities at the Soteria House during the shift assigned.
• Monitors and maintains shelter and ground security. Activities include checking security cameras, physically examining windows and doors, walking through the house to conduct security checks, and ensuring the security system is operational.
• Maintains a working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards to assure a safe shelter environment for persons served, staff, and visitors.
• Monitors compliance with shelter curfew hours or arrivals and departures pertaining to the shift.
• Educates residents regarding the benefits of participation in evening activities; family dinners, homework for children, baths, calming activities, storybook time, and preparation for bedtime conducted mostly during the 1st and 2nd shift operation.
• Organizes group activities for residents, both children and adults, to provide pleasant activities such as arts and crafts, games, baking mostly during the 2nd shift and weekends.
• Organizes and shares educational self‑help materials such as money management/financial planning, self‑care, parenting, anger management, nutritional information or ideas, meditation, exercise, self‑esteem building activities when working the 1st or 2nd shifts.
• Assists victims with safety planning using “Futures Without Violence” and documents and discusses follow‑up instructions for further safety action.
• Checks for any needed assistance and advocacy (e.g., legal advocacy; consultation regarding rights; and assistance to remedy basic needs or certain issues).

Qualifications

• Certification: Valid Ohio Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and appropriate automobile liability insurance.
