Job summary

Garnet Health Medical Center-Middletown is seeking a Specialized Nursing Technician for the 3 West CTICU. You will work under the supervision of an RN to perform assigned patient care tasks and related duties, while maintaining accurate paper charts and supporting unit operations.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant Program, and current BLS. CNA certification may be preferred with limited experience.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant Program required.
• Current and ongoing BLS certification; CNA certificate preferred if experience minimal.

Responsibilities

• Under RN supervision, perform assigned patient care tasks and related unit duties.
• Handle clerical, receptionist and patient care duties as directed.
• Maintain patient records (paper charts) as a medical-legal document on the inpatient unit.
• Assist in organizing and communicating inter- and intra-departmentally to optimize patient care.
• Maintain an orderly and well-equipped Nursing Unit.

Responsibilities

The Specialized Nursing Technician works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The Specialized Nursing Technician performs assigned patient care tasks and other related unit duties, defined, and delegated under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. Other responsibilities include in performing clerical, receptionist, communication and patient care duties (when appropriate) as directed. The Specialized Nursing Technician maintains the patient record “paper” chart as a medical-legal document, on the inpatient unit, according to Medical Center policy and procedures. Assists in organizing and communicating inter and intra-departmentally to achieve optimum patient care. Responsibilities also include maintaining an orderly and equipped Nursing Unit.

The range for the role is $24.26 - $24.99 hourly.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a recognized Nursing.
• Assistant Program or equivalent preparation and/or experience.

Minimum Experience:

• Computer proficiency preferred.
• 1 year of prior acute care experience preferred or CNA or completion of first clinical course in RN program.

Required Certification/Registration:

• Current and ongoing BLS. CNA certificate preferred if experience is minimal.
• Internal Crisis Intervention training required.

Physical Requirements:

• Work is primarily walking and standing. Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patient. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. Ability to pass pre-hire physical assessment. (See attached).

Working Conditions:

• Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards.
• Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 10 lbs.
• Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
