Job summary

Arc-After-School-and-Experiential-Educatio is seeking a Specialized Instructor to lead hands-on enrichment lessons and develop a full syllabus for student programs. You will manage attendance, safety, and compliance while delivering engaging activities with strong instructional planning.

Ideal candidates have 48+ college units or CAPE, TB Live Scan clearance, and current CPR certification. Bilingual Spanish is preferred, with opportunities for higher credentialing upon HR approval.

Qualifications

  • 48+ college units completed or CAPE exam.
  • Experience in school settings, after-school programs, or youth recreational facilities.
  • TB Test Clearance & Live Scan Background check.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • Current CPR Certification (adult, child, infant).
  • To qualify for higher levels, required certifications/teacher credentials on file with HR.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver a full syllabus and lesson plans for enrichment activities.
  • Manage student sign-in/out, incident reports, and compliance requirements.
  • Instruct enrichment time blocks and maintain required student-instructor ratios.
  • Market and advertise the program, create flyers, recruit students on campus.
  • Demonstrate leadership, safety, and positive behavior management.
  • Participate in training, ongoing professional development, and staff meetings.

Job Title - Specialized InstructorLevels - Levels I, II, IIIClassification Non-ExemptReports to Site CoordinatorDate June 2020JOB DESCRIPTIONA Specialized Instructor will be highly skilled, have the ability and capacity to teach students a given specialty by immersing them in interactive hands-on enrichment lessons.Essential Functions:Develop and facilitate a full syllabus and lesson plans for enrichment activities that are approved of by Site Coordinator and meet the needs of the program and students.Manage students sign in and out of program, complete incident reports, and follow all program compliance requirements as instructedInstruct the scheduled enrichment time block and meet minimum student-instructor ratio in accordance to program needs and grant requirementsarc reserves the right to cancel or terminate a program at any time, for any of the following reasons: poor quality, low attendance, inappropriate behavior, failure to submit attendance sheets daily.Market and advertise the enrichment program to students by participating in activity showcases, create advertisement flyers, and recruit students on campus to generate participant interestSpecialized Instructor cannot sell or market private services or products to students or communicate privately with studentsDemonstrate leadership and a commitment to educating and empowering youth to reach their full potentialUse proper safety protocols for indoor and outdoor settings by clearly defining safety expectationsHave basic knowledge of age appropriate classroom and behavior management skills - Staff member routinely and effectively uses classroom management techniques like setting expectations, proper rewards and discipline, attention getters, and incentivesBe a responsible, energetic, and creative individual - Staff member interacts with students in an age appropriate manner, fosters positive relationships, and appropriately manages behaviorParticipates in training and development during introductory employment period, ongoing professional development, and routine staff development meetings; implements training and feedbackEffectively communicates verbally and in writing as appropriate and when needed to share information that is critical to the successful operations of programs.Uses critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make sound decisions as it pertains to your role and position at arc by implementing and considering training and best practices for youth programsOther duties as assignedQualifications:Availability to work set school programming hours, including early dismissal days and weekends as assignedExperience facilitating specialized curriculum to studentsExperience working in school settings, after school programs, or youth recreational facilitiesExperience in working with ethnic and culturally diverse communities48+ College Units completed or pass on the CAPE examTB Test Clearance & Live Scan Clearance (Background check)For LAUSD placed must obtain LAUSD SSO AND complete requisite Risk Management Training (RMT)Bilingual Spanish preferredCurrent CPR Certification adult, child, and infantTo qualify for higher levels of the Specialized Instructor position, certifications and teacher credentials are required and must be on file with Human Resources at the time of applicationPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.The employee is required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel, use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms for the duration of their shift; occasionally may be required to sit.
