The Specialist, Mechanical Engineer – Structural Analysis works on complex opto-mechanical systems and precision mechanisms for space/airborne platforms, performing FEA and hand-calculation analyses to ensure structural integrity.

You will interact with customers and cross-functional teams, contribute to PDR/CDR/TIM, and help drive design decisions while supporting relocation and a sign-on bonus up to $15K.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of related experience if no degree.
• 2+ years of structural analysis experience (FEA/hand-calcs).
• Experience with FEA and pre/post processors (Femap with Nastran).
• 2+ years in aerospace systems with a focus on structural/dynamics analysis.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS/SCI security clearance.

Job Description:

L3Harris has an opportunity for a Structural Analyst to join our talented engineering organization within the Space Superiority and Imaging division. This position is for an experienced professional that will perform mechanical analysis tasks on complex opto-mechanical systems and precision mechanisms in a program team environment. This position is responsible for the analysis of composite, metallic, ceramic, and glass components and assemblies for exquisite space and airborne systems.

Essential Functions:

• Interpret design specifications and create finite element models of complex components and assemblies for structural analysis.
• Analyze the models for stress, strain, displacement, modes, etc. at both component and assembly levels.
• Prepare reports, formal documentation, and presentation materials summarizing analysis results and presenting results to both external and internal groups.
• Ensure a comprehensive technical approach to meet assigned goals while providing assistance to engineering team in order to meet team objectives.
• Frequently interface directly with customer technical leads and management.
• Participates in and present information for Preliminary Design reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR) and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM).
• Interfaces with outside suppliers/customers and other engineering disciplines to drive designs to closure (Thermal, Systems Engineering, Electrical, Manufacturing, Integration and Testing, Quality, Configuration Management).
• Presents design details at program reviews to customers and independent reviewers.
• Support new business opportunities
• Work multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing situations

Qualifications:

• 4+ years with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering or science degree required or2+ years of experience with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering or science degree. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
• 2+ years of professional experience years of structural analysis methods (FEA and hand-calculations)
• Professional experience with FEA and Pre/Post Processor software (preferably Femap with Nastran)
• 2+ years of professional experience in aerospace systems with an emphasis on structural/dynamics analysis
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS/SCI security clearance

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Active U.S. Security clearance is preferred
• Knowledge of system level hardware design & development, mechanical and structural analysis, payload level integration & test, and risk mitigation for space-based environments.
• Experience supporting programs with mission/requirements definition, concept generation, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design selection, component selection, integration and test support, materials selection, FEM modeling, design documentation and collaboration with manufacturing operations for fabrication in a program team environment.
• Experience with optics and/or opto-mechanical hardware.
• Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplined team environment
• Experience in the space industry highly desired
• Familiarity with CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor and CREO
• Experience with computational programming such as Matlab or Python.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $88,500.00 - $164,500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
