Job Description:

The Specialist Mechanical Design Engineering role focuses on the design of filament-wound composite cases for Solid Propulsion and Controllable Solids Systems. The position requires proficient knowledge in the area of carbon fiber epoxy material systems, pressure vessel design, filament winding manufacturing, and Classical Lamination Theory. This position requires theability to work under general supervision in defining objectives, determining technical approaches, delegating tasks, andreviewing deliverables. The selected candidate will provide technical support in the component and system design of composite cases for solid propellant and controllable solid propulsion applications.

Essential Functions:

• Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
• Lead mechanical design efforts for filament-wound composite cases, propulsion systems, and related components.
• Develop design concepts, 3D models, and detailed engineering drawings.
• Perform trade studies and prepare component specifications and procedures.
• Coordinate with analysis, manufacturing, project engineering, quality, and customer support teams.
• Plan and execute design assignments within an Integrated Product Team environment.
• Support production activities on the shop floor and at supplier locations.
• Address nonconforming hardware, support process planning and production reviews, and ensure design requirements are met through supplier coordination.
• Support engineering drawing and specification updates through configuration control boards.
• Support environmental and qualification testing, including pathfinder, subscale, component, and system-level tests.
• Prepare and present technical presentations and engineering reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 4 years of priorrelevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior relatedexperience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior relatedexperience.
• Experience in filament wound composite pressure vessel design and manufacturing methods.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is preferred.
• Knowledge of solid propulsion systems design and manufacturing methods.
• Knowledge and experience in strategic booster motors, tactical rocket motors, controllable solids systems.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with CAD software tools (CREO), and PLM Systems (Windchill), engineering drawing and GD&T application experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
