Job Description:

The L3Harris Imaging Division in Wilmington, MA designs and manufactures solutions for space and airborne markets. This site is a leader in space-based mechanisms, telescopes, and payloads for small satellites, supporting missions like NASA’s New Horizons, which took the first close-up pictures of Pluto. We also have airborne programs such as the F-35!

We are seeking a manufacturing engineer to join our Wilmington Operations team. The role involves leading manufacturing activities for the F-35 Fast Steering Mirror program, focusing on reducing cycle time and cost, improving quality, and optimizing production processes to deliver value to our customer.

Essential Functions:

• Lead manufacturing engineering activities for assembly and integration of the F-35 Fast Steering Mirror.
• Develop and lead process improvement and cost reduction projects, applying lean principles.
• Optimize manufacturing processes, procedures, and layouts.
• Coordinate design changes with engineering to resolve technical and obsolescence issues.
• Estimate and track manufacturing costs to support continuous improvement.
• Supervise technicians and operations personnel, and back up the operations manager.
• Support capacity planning and lab space layout for program changes.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience, or graduate degree with at least 4 years, or 10 years of electro-mechanical engineering experience without a degree.
• Electrical or electro-mechanical engineering experience.
• Ability to obtain a security clearance.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Experience with optical engineering is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
• Lean (Green Belt, Black Belt) certification.
• CAD training (SolidWorks/AutoCAD).
• Knowledge of project management techniques.
• Familiarity with industry standards like AS9100/ISO9001.
• Experience with fabrication of optical and electrical assemblies.
