Job summary

L3Harris Technologies in Fayetteville, NC is seeking a Field Engineer (Avionics) to perform operation, inspection, maintenance and repair of avionics and communications systems on various aircraft. The role is on-site with 2nd shift and requires travel between 30% and 50% (international and domestic).

You will work from manuals and schematics, install QRC modifications, and collaborate with operations and maintenance teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher in avionics or related field with hands-on aircraft avionics operation, troubleshooting, repair and inspection.
• Graduate degree with relevant avionics experience also acceptable.
• In lieu of a degree, eight years of progressive avionics experience will satisfy the requirement.
• Must have active Secret clearance at hire with eligibility for Top-Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, repairs, tests and calibrates aircraft electronic equipment and related devices.
• Troubleshoots avionics systems to restore aircraft to full operational status.
• Installs and maintains Quick Reaction Capability (QRC) modifications on aircraft.

• Maintains knowledge of avionics operation, troubleshooting, repair and inspection.
• Must be willing to travel 30-50% internationally and domestically.
• Proficient with Windows and Office products.

Job Description:

Field Engineering Specialist is responsible for operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of the complete spectrum of avionics systems and proprietary communication systems on various single and multi-engine aircraft.

Essential Functions:

• Maintains, repairs, tests and/or calibrates various types of aircraft electronic equipment and related devices such as transmitters, amplifiers, receivers, RF distribution equipment, computer controllers, and workstations.
• Applies technical knowledge of electronic principles and strong knowledge in troubleshooting techniques to determine avionics malfunctions and restore aircraft to full operational status.
• Installs and maintains Quick Reaction Capability (QRC) modifications to the aircraft and advises operations and maintenance personnel on their use.
• Performs work in accordance with technical manuals, schematics, engineering drawings, and written/verbal instructions.
• Apply knowledge and understanding of operational procedures, inspection requirements, troubleshooting, and maintenance techniques to aircraft communications/navigation and ancillary electronics systems.
• Utilize a variety of aircraft test equipment, technical publications, and schematics.
• In-depth knowledge of aircraft avionics operation, troubleshooting, repair, and inspection.
• Experience with a wide range of technical reference material from commercial/OEM manuals to blueprints/engineering drawings.
• Must be willing and able to travel between 30-50% both international and domestic.
• Physical requirements of the job include lifting, bending, and climbing.
• Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree with four (4) years of experience with Aircraft avionics operation, troubleshooting, repair, and inspection.
• Graduate Degree with two (2) years of experience with Aircraft avionics operation, troubleshooting, repair, and inspection.
• In lieu of a degree, a minimum of eight (8) years of experience with Aircraft avionics operation, troubleshooting, repair, and inspection.
• Must have an active Secret clearance at the time of hire with eligibility to obtain a Top-Secret clearance.
