Job summary

Signature Health Inc. is hiring a Specialist, Behavioral Health, School Based to provide targeted interventions and coaching in school settings.

You will work with teachers and staff to develop and implement behavior and care plans, and support students in home and community contexts. Responsibilities include crisis support, group skill sessions, and referrals to Signature Health services, while maintaining documentation in the agency systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Knowledge or training in behavioral health; experience with children, adolescents and families preferred.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Understanding of children’s development, parenting, and family systems.
• Strong computer skills with Microsoft Excel, etc.

Responsibilities

• Engage with school staff, students and parents to support engagement and progress.
• Promote and reinforce skills identified in the student’s behavior plan and care plan.
• Collaborate with School Based Counselors and support classroom teachers/teams on behavior management.
• Develop and implement student-specific behavior support and care plans with measurable goals.
• Facilitate referrals to Signature Health services and community resources as needed.
• Assist students in applying behavior and feeling management techniques at school and home.
• Maintain client charts in accordance with Medicaid, JCAHO, ODADAS, ODMH, CARF and agency standards.
• Maintain professional boundaries with students, families and staff.
• Meet productivity targets and manage caseload per school placement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

SCOPE OF ROLE

Reporting to the Supervisor, School-Based Services, and the Manager, School-Based Services, the Specialist, Behavioral Health, School Based will provide an array of services in the school and classroom to support students, teachers, and staff. The Specialist, Behavioral Health, School Based will provide targeted behavior interventions and coaching, facilitation of skills groups, class presentations and trainings, deescalation techniques, and crisis support. The Specialist, Behavioral Health, School Based will work closely with the classroom teachers and school staff, and be involved in the formulation and implementation of the child’s school plan and behavioral health care plan; and provide case management services to students and community members as part of an active treatment plan, in school, in the home and in the community.

HOW YOU’LL SUCCEED

• Working primarily in the school environment, will demonstrate excellent engagement skills, forming positive relationships with school staff, students, and parents.
• Promote, reinforce, and encourage skills and behaviors as identified in students' behavior management and care plan.
• Collaborate with School Based Counselors, and provide support for classroom teachers/teams and school personnel on behavior management.
• Participate in the development and implementation of the child’s school behavior support plan and care plan to meet assessed needs, including identification of specific goals, objective and interventions.
• Facilitate referrals to other Signature Health services and community resources as needed.
• Assist students to learn and utilize behavior and feeling management techniques interchangeable within a school and home setting.
• Maintain client charting in accordance with Medicaid, JCAHO, ODADAS, ODMH, CARF and professional standards. All documentation will be entered into the agency Electronic Medical Record and/or School Documentation System.
• Maintains clear communication and professional boundaries with all students, families and staff members.
• Meet productivity and maintain caseload as determined by school placement.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Knowledge or specialized training/experience in behavioral health setting; experience with children, adolescents and families preferred.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Possess an understanding of children’s development, parenting, and family systems.
• Strong Computer Skills with Microsoft, Excel, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Work is normally performed in a typical classroom/office/school environment.t.
• While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required.
• Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.
• Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
• Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
• Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
• Physical effort required: occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds, unassisted.
• Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular workday.
• Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment.
