Job description

Crosscut Strategies — a Washington DC-based strategic communications firm working primarily with high-growth start-ups in tech, health care, and other complex sectors — is seeking an Account Specialist to join our team. This role is an opportunity to level up in your career, learn more about strategic communications, and develop your managerial skills in client accounts and staff mentorship.

The ideal specialist will have at least 3 years of relevant experience in strategic communications at a firm or in-house. You need to be inquisitive, motivated, and be able to write quickly and well. Specialists must be problem solvers, able to multitask, have excellent judgment, and be able to communicate openly and effectively up and down the team as well as to clients.

Responsibilities
  • Develop media and social media content strategies, and pitch media strategically and proficiently.
  • Staff media interviews for clients as needed.
  • Write and review drafts of bylines/blogs, releases, pitches and other media materials, grassroots and internal communications.
  • Help develop strategies and draft recommendations for clients.
  • Review background briefing memos for clients; provide constructive feedback to junior staff.
  • Manage and execute multi-part account projects or strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate interviews and other client interactions, and be able to provide client updates on calls.
  • Develop management and mentorship skills.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Effectively multi-task, work quickly to meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments at once while updating team members accordingly.
  • Be proactive, take initiative, solve problems, and bring ideas to the table.
  • Produce high-quality, client-ready work and excellent results.
  • Bring service mentality to clients – anticipate client needs and help solve their problems.
  • Be willing to help other team members with their work.
  • Communicate openly across staff (up and down).
  • Demonstrate sound professional judgment and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Write quickly and well, with near client ready first drafts.
  • 3+ years of experience working with traditional media, social media, and/or writing materials for public distribution.
  • Advanced proficiency with creating, editing, and formatting professional-quality documents in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Skills
  • 1-2 years of digital media experience.
  • Experience with Agentic AI.
  • Familiarity with and/or interest in health care, energy, technology, financial services, and related issues.
  • Interest in public policy and familiarity with federal and/or state policymaking processes.
Education and Location Requirements

Crosscut operates as a hybrid workplace with an office in the heart of the Dupont/Farragut North area that has easy access to Metro, buses, and bikeshare. While employees are not required to come into the office every day, we are expected to come on set days, and must live within the DC-metro area to be available for meetings and collaborations that occur in-person.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for the specialist position is $60,000 to $70,000 with a comprehensive benefits package, great team, and a working environment committed to fostering staff growth and leadership. Employee benefits include an employer-matched 401(k) plan with immediate vesting, medical, dental and vision insurance for employees and eligible dependents, paid time off and sick leave, and paid parental leave.
