POSITION OVERVIEW

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) plays a critical role in supporting the communication and educational success of students throughout the district. As a key member of the Special Education Department, the SLP provides expert assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic services for students with speech, language, voice, fluency, and social communication needs. The position serves all eligible students, from early learning through high school, ensuring that each learner receives high-quality, individualized support in alignment with their educational and developmental goals.

The SLP collaborates closely with teachers, administrators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure that communication development is integrated into the broader academic and social context of the school environment. This role is essential to meeting the district's mission of inclusive education, equity, and success for all learners. SLPs support compliance with state and federal special education requirements and play a vital part in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), contributing to a culture of support, data-informed decision-making, and professional excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid Washington State ESA (Educational Staff Associate) certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
• Possession of or eligibility for the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC-SLP) or participation in a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).
• Valid Washington State driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. A driving abstract may be required.
• Any alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the district.

DEMONSTRATED ABILITIES

• Skilled in conducting comprehensive, culturally responsive speech and language evaluations using standardized and non-standardized tools.
• Expertise in developing individualized, evidence-based therapy plans addressing a variety of communication disorders.
• Proven ability to collaborate with general and special education staff to support access to curriculum and social development.
• Experienced in providing education, consultation, and resources to families to reinforce communication skills at home.
• Competent in collecting and analyzing data to monitor student progress, refine interventions, and ensure outcome effectiveness.
• Proficient in developing measurable and achievable IEP goals aligned with state and federal special education regulations.
• Ability to work respectfully and effectively with students and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
• Knowledgeable in using AAC devices and digital tools that support student communication, assessment, and therapy documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to support collaboration, reporting, and advocacy.
• Adheres to ASHA’s Code of Ethics, district policy, and legal guidelines in all professional responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Support students in general education and special education environments, promoting inclusive practices and student access to learning.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including evaluations, eligibility determination, and IEP development.
• Provide appropriate referrals to outside agencies or medical professionals when warranted.
• Document services and maintain records in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
• Maintain professional competency through continuing education, in-service training, and licensure renewal.
• Attend staff meetings, professional development activities, and relevant district committees as needed.
• Travel between school sites as necessary to meet student needs.
• Adhere to consistent attendance standards and demonstrate dependability in fulfilling role expectations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• This is a district-wide position that may require travel between school sites.
• A flexible schedule and willingness to follow a modified school-year calendar may be necessary to meet student needs and program demands.
