Job summary

Atrius Health in Somerville, MA is seeking a Special Procedure Nurse to join a collaborative care team. You will provide pre- and post-procedure care across specialties including GYN Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and GI procedures, with IV moderate sedation and intra-procedural support.

The role requires an MA RN license, BLS, 3+ years of relevant nursing experience, and a commitment to safety and documentation. 32 hours per week in a dynamic outpatient setting.

Qualifications

• Active MA RN license is required.
• BLS certification mandatory; ACLS may be required based on specialty.
• 3+ years of medical/surgical or ambulatory nursing experience.
• Willingness to participate in IVMS seminar every two years.
• Experience with electronic medical records (EPIC) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the procedural process as part of a collaborative care team
• Organize resources and activities to ensure safe, efficient procedural flow
• Provide specialty-specific pre-op assessment, IV moderate sedation, intra-procedural support, and post-op monitoring
• Perform nursing procedures within scope of practice (IV placement, medications, injections, wound care, EKGs, glucose testing)
• Deliver patient education and instructions for pre- and post-procedure care; maintain documentation
• Monitor patient condition throughout the procedural process and communicate data to the care team
• Administer medications per physician orders and assist with oncology care coordination and community resources
• Maintain compliance with safety standards, credentialing, and certifications
• Contribute to staff education, department meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
• Foster collaborative relationships for patient flow management and program planning

Under the direction of the department chief, nurse leader, or designee, the Special Procedure Nurse provides practice management support and direct patient care in a procedural unit. Responsibilities include pre- and post-procedure assessment, monitoring, and intra-procedural care for specialty areas such as GYN Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Oncology, and GI procedures.

Position Details:

• Department: Special Procedures OBGYN
• Location: 40 Holland St, Somerville, MA
• Standard Hours: 32hrs weekly (The department is open 7am- 5pm)

Primary Responsibilities:

• Support the procedural process as part of a collaborative care team
• Organize resources and activities to ensure safe, efficient procedural flow
• Provide specialty-specific care, including pre-op assessment, IV moderate sedation, intra-procedural support, and post-op monitoring for patients in areas such as GYN Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and GI procedures
• Perform nursing procedures within scope of practice (eg, IV placement and medication administration, injections, wound care, EKGs, glucose testing)
• Deliver patient education and instructions for pre- and post-procedure care; maintain accurate documentation and confidentiality
• Monitor patient condition throughout the procedural process and communicate relevant data to the care team
• Administer medications per physician orders and assist with oncology care coordination and community resources
• Maintain compliance with safety standards, credentialing, and certifications (BCLS, ACLS, specialty certifications)
• Contribute to staff education, department meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
• Serve as a resource for patient flow management and program planning; foster collaborative relationships

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Completed an accredited Registered Nurse education program
• Active and unrestricted RN licensure in the state of MA
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty
• 3+ years of relevant experience in medical/surgical or ambulatory nursing exceptions in consultation with VP of Nursing
• Willing or ability to participate in IVMS (Intravenous Moderate Sedation) seminar every two years

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Experience with an electronic medical records system, EPIC experienced
