Job summary

May Valley Elementary School in Martin, Kentucky, part of Floyd County Schools, seeks a Special Needs Assistant for immediate start. This full‑time position pays $11.60 per hour and reports to the Principal.

You will tutor students, assist with instruction for exceptional children, administer medications as trained, transport students, monitor behavior, perform clerical tasks, and support health and safety in daily classroom activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required, with KPA completion or 2 years of college.
• Experience with children in organized settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Tutors individuals or small groups as directed by the teacher.
• Administers medications and injections subject to training and state law.
• Transports students to and from activities and assists in preparation for treatment.
• Monitors and reports behavior and progress; assists with lab work as needed.
• Performs routine clerical duties for instructional materials.
• Assists with dressing, movement, restroom and bus routines.
• Provides examples, emotional support and positive guidance.
• Ensures health and safety practices for students.
• Directs group activities and monitors lunchroom/playground.
• Participates in meetings and professional development.
• Performs other related duties including health-related procedures.
