Job summary

St. Charles School District is seeking a classroom assistant to support teachers with planning, preparation, and distribution of materials. You will conduct learning games, assist with student needs, and help maintain a safe, conducive learning environment.

The role may involve feeding, lifting, suctioning, toileting, and other learning activities, plus implementing district objectives and attending workshops. Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, with a minimum hourly wage.

Qualifications

• Preferred prior experience working with special needs children.
• Ability to support teacher with planning, preparation, and classroom activities.

Responsibilities

• Assists teacher as needed with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials.
• Conducts learning games with students according to established procedures.
• Complies with State law and District policies and regulations.
• Maintains a safe environment for students, conducive to learning.
• Assist teacher with student needs; may include feeding, lifting, suctioning, toileting, and other learning activities.
• Assist in other physical ways as identified by the IEP.
• Anticipates and effectively addresses unforeseen crises associated with working with large groups of children.
• Provides individualized and small-group instruction to reinforce skills that have been taught by the teacher.
• Ability to implement lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
• Serves snacks and lunches as necessary.
• Attends district workshops as directed.
• Prefer prior experience working with special needs children.
