Job summary

The California Department of Justice seeks a Special Litigation Advisor to serve as an expert legal consultant on department-wide federal accountability matters. You will provide strategic analysis across constitutional, administrative, civil rights, environment, and funding issues, supporting CCSL and the Directorate in policy development and implementation.

They support the Chief Counsel for Special Litigation (CCSL) and Directorate in developing and implementing departmental policies and operational practices that ensure the timely, thorough, and thoughtful evaluation of federal accountability matters. They also review and assist with federal litigation performed on behalf of the Attorney General and client agencies.

They support the Chief Counsel for Special Litigation (CCSL) and Directorate in developing and implementing departmental policies and operational practices that ensure the timely, thorough, and thoughtful evaluation of federal accountability matters. They also review and assist with federal litigation performed on behalf of the Attorney General and client agencies. In this role, Special Litigation Advisors coordinate and manage communications and legal actions concerning federal accountability, working closely with internal legal divisions, special assistants, and Directorate. They also engage with external stakeholders, including the Governor's Office, state legislators, agencies, and private advocacy organizations. Operating with a significant degree of independence, Special Litigation Advisors carry out their duties under the general oversight of the CCSL. Department Information

• The position is located in the Special Litigation Section, Directorate Division, and may be filled in Sacramento, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles or San Diego.
• The Deputy Attorney General classifications qualify for a "Hire Above Minimum" (HAM) salary ( Hiring Above Minimum Policy ).

The Starting Salary For Each Classification Will Be

• Deputy Attorney General Range A (0-24 months): $8,846 and Range B (2-5 years): $9,956
• Deputy Attorney General III (5 years): $12,046
• Deputy Attorney General IV (6+ years): $13,313

New to State candidates will be hired at the starting HAM salary of the classification.
