Job summary

The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office is seeking a Special Investigator to support investigative initiatives as a sworn officer under NY CPL 1.20(34)(g). This exempt, at-will position works on highly sensitive assignments for the DA's Investigative Operations Corps.

Responsibilities include developing informants, executing warrants, high-risk arrests, court testimony, and handling electronic surveillance. Candidates must meet strict NYS requirements and maintain peak physical condition.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school diploma.
• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a detective or plainclothes investigator while employed as a police officer within New York State, whose principal duties included investigation of organized crime or gang activities.
• Experience must include three (3) or more of the following: physical and electronic surveillance; undercover role-playing; NYS wiretap investigations with affiant on more than ten wire investigations; cultivator and handler of more than twenty informants; provided testimony at trials, hearings and grand juries; obtained NYS search and arrest warrants.

Responsibilities

• Developing confidential informants and assets.
• Executing search warrants (including TAC plans).
• Effectuating arrests (including high-risk arrests).
• Testifying in court and Grand Jury proceedings.
• Analyzing enterprise records and data.
• Extradition of fugitives.
• Collecting and examining digital/social media/cybercrime footprints.
• Preparing evidence for court proceedings.
• Communicating with prosecutors, crime victims, and witnesses.
• Preparing statistical and other periodic reports.
• Locating witnesses and subjects and supporting prosecution operations.
• Managing an investigative caseload.
• Participating in electronic surveillance operations.
• Assisting with building security.
• Fielding citizen complaints.
• Conducting physical surveillance.
• Acting as liaison for other law enforcement agencies.
