Position: Special Inspector – AWS CWI / ICC Welding - NY

Reports to: Project Manager

Technical Responsibilities

• Inspect weldments to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and specifications
• Review welding procedure specifications (WPS), welder qualification records, and inspection reports prior to the start of welding activities
• Verify compliance with contract documents, submittals, and construction drawings
• Oversee non‑destructive testing (NDT) and ensure proper materials and procedures are in place
• Identify and report non‑conformance issues (NCRs) to contractors and clients in a timely manner
• Prepare and submit detailed daily inspection reports
• Maintain accurate documentation of all inspection activities and findings
• Coordinate with project teams, contractors, and clients to ensure quality and compliance

Requirements

• Professional Experience & Education/Certifications:
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) OR ICC Structural Steel & Welding Special Inspector Certification
  • Entry‑Level (3‑5 years) or Mid‑Level (6‑9 years) welding inspection experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, or related field (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of welding codes, standards, and inspection procedures
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills
• Physical & Additional Requirements:
  • This position requires physical ability to perform field inspections
  • Ability to work in diverse weather conditions
  • Extended periods of standing and walking, possibly on uneven or challenging terrains
  • Climbing, bending, kneeling
  • Working long hours & lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Valid, clean driver’s license & must have a personal vehicle and be willing to travel daily to project sites across the NYC metro area
  • Ability to transport inspection and testing equipment as needed
