Job summary

BUNNELL LAMMONS ENGINEERING in North Charleston is seeking a Special Inspections Technician II (SIT II). This position involves working under a registered professional engineer to perform inspections and sampling services associated with construction projects.

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in construction materials testing and required certifications. Responsibilities include collecting site materials for testing and preparing detailed reports on findings.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years experience in construction materials testing or over 5 years of experience in lieu of certifications.
  • Active certifications in ACI-1 Concrete and ICC Soils.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving history for 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Collect concrete, soil, and other materials for testing.
  • Monitor contractor activities and prepare daily reports.
  • Collaborate with site managers and engineers.

Position Overview

Special Inspections Technician II (SIT II) works under a registered professional engineer, collaborating with site managers and engineers to perform inspection and sampling services. Responsibilities include collecting concrete, soil, and other site materials for testing, monitoring contractor activities, and preparing daily reports that detail test results and construction observations.

Requirements
  • At least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or General Education (GED).
  • 2‑5 years experience in construction materials testing OR more than 5 years of experience in lieu of certifications.
  • Active certifications: ACI‑1 Concrete and ICC Soils (or SCDOT/NCDOT Earthwork). Must also obtain or recertify within three months for one of the following: ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Masonry, and an additional industry certification such as fireproofing.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving history of 3 years.
  • Ability to work outdoors all seasons and weather, including early morning concrete placements.
  • Self‑motivated, able to work independently, and meet scheduled tasks.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with team members, leadership, and authorities.
  • Detail oriented with strong time‑management skills.
  • Basic computer and smartphone proficiency; familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Physical capability to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, bend, lift 70‑85 pounds, and handle wheelbarrow loads on uneven ground.
