J. F. Ahern Co. is seeking a Special Hazards & Fire Alarm Construction Superintendent to oversee field crews across multiple Midwest locations.

The role involves managing equipment, scheduling installations, and ensuring safety and quality on projects in Davenport, IA; Des Moines, IA; Omaha, NE; St. Louis, MO; or Minneapolis, MN. The ideal candidate has a strong electrical/mechanical background, a HS diploma, and the ability to lead teams in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma and construction or service experience in Special Hazards/Fire Alarm.
• Clean driving record to operate company vehicles and local Midwest travel.
• Must pass a drug screen and physical.
• Strong electrical/mechanical background with the ability to lead teams in field settings.
• Self-motivated, able to direct others and work in a fast-paced construction environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage field technicians, equipment, and material procurement for small to mid-sized projects.
• Schedule and conduct on-site safety audits to protect employees and worksites.
• Perform inspections, testing, and installation work on projects as assigned.
• Monitor progress, report outcomes, solve problems, and maintain quality and profitability.
• Attract, hire, and conduct performance reviews; coach, mentor, develop, train, and terminate staff.

How you will contribute:

The Special Hazards/Fire Alarm Construction Superintendent is involved in managing the field technicians, equipment, and material procurement, supporting the Operations team with scheduling of small to mid-sized project installations. You are responsible for scheduling and conducting on-site safety audits to ensure the safety of employees and the worksite. You will be involved in performing inspections, testing, and installing small to mid-sized projects. Monitor and report on the progress and outcome of each inspection and project, problem-solve, and make adjustments as needed to maintain the quality, safety, and profitability of each job. You will be responsible for managing employees, management responsibilities which include attracting, hiring, and conducting performance reviews of each employee. In addition, you will need to coach, mentor, develop, train, and terminate employees.

What you need to qualify:

Qualified candidates will have a High School Diploma and have construction or service experience in the Special Hazards/Fire Alarm industry. Candidates must have a clean driving record to operate company vehicles, travel locally throughout the Midwest for the position, and pass an appropriate drug screen and physical. Successful candidates must be self-starters, able to lead and direct others, have a strong electrical/mechanical background, have a good working and learning attitude, and be able to work in a fast-paced construction environment.
