Job summary

Springfield Public Schools seeks a Special Educator for the Transition Academy (Aged 18-22) in Springfield, MA. You will plan, deliver instruction aligned with IEP goals, and support students' education, career training, independent living, and community participation, both in school and in approved community settings.

Collaborate with families and district staff, participate in IEP meetings, manage classroom routines, and employ technology to enhance learning.

Qualifications

• Degree in Special Education and initial license or waiver eligible.
• Master’s degree and professional license preferred.
• Previous experience in working with secondary students with disabilities preferred.
• Previous experience working with 18-22 year old students with disabilities in a post‑secondary program preferred.
• Willingness and ability to use technology to enhance student instructional activities.
• Ability to manage classroom staff and establish routines and procedures.
• Ability to modify curriculum and differentiate student learning experiences.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities in the classroom and community that focus on education/career training, employment, independent living, and community participation.
• Ensure instruction aligns with IEP goals and post-secondary objectives.
• Share information with students, parents, and district staff regarding student needs, progress, and resources.
• Participate in the IEP process as mandated by IDEA and state regulations.
• Collaborate with the Evaluation Team Leader to facilitate the IEP process.
• Manage student behavior with appropriate strategies for students with disabilities, including sensory supports as needed.
• Provide embedded training to paraprofessionals and supervise related paperwork.
• Use resources and technology to enhance instruction.
