Job summary

Victory Autism Academy in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Special Education Teacher to provide direct services to students with disabilities and to manage IEP-related responsibilities. You will collaborate with families, track progress, and ensure compliance with state standards.

The successful candidate must hold an AZ Special Education certificate, comply with FERPA, implement the approved curriculum with fidelity, keep accurate records, and foster a positive, inclusive classroom culture.

• Instructing and assisting students in self-help living skills.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relations with coworkers, vendors, students, parents, and the public.
• Proficient with computer and software applications.

Responsibilities

• Provide case management services for students with a disability including all requirements related to IEP development, provision, and compliance with regulations.

• Maintain FERPA confidentiality and compliance.
• Meet and instruct assigned classes per the master schedule.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Plan and prepare lessons to meet state standards.
• Maintain classroom behavior standards and implement behavior systems.
• Conduct small-group instruction for Reading and Math.
• Attend staff meetings and supervise support staff.
• Protect students, equipment, and facilities; maintain safety.

Special Education Teacher

Essential Duties and Responsibilities generally include the following.

Other duties may be assigned:

• Provides case management services for students with a disability including all requirements related to IEP development, provision, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Provides direct services to students with a disability per agreement on the IEP.
• Maintains all aspects and provisions of confidentiality to (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) FERPA.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes per the master schedule.
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning appropriate to the maturity and skill level of the students.
• Plans and prepares lessons to provide the students with the opportunity to meet and/or exceed standards as outlined by state standards.
• Sets and maintains standards of classroom behavior.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the needs and capabilities of the students.
• Guides the learning process, through the use of clearly established goals and objectives to meet the student and VAA goals and objectives.
• Maintains accurate and complete records that meet the required federal, state, and VAA regulations/requirements.
• Assesses the accomplishments of students as required by policy and regulation and assists student growth through meaningful feedback.
• Implement the approved curriculum with fidelity.

• A working knowledge of accommodations and modifications to appropriately meet students’ needs.
• Knowledge of principles of record, file, and database management.
• Knowledge of principles of basic non-typical child development stages, and non-typical developmental delays.
• Demonstrate flexibility, common sense, and good judgment.
• Skill in following oral and written directions.
• Skill in identifying, preventing, and de-escalating negative behaviors.
• Skill in instructing and assisting students in self-help living skills.
• Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public, and others having business with Victory Autism Academy.
• Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

Minimum Qualifications: A current Special Education Teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement(s) at the Arizona Department of Education.

Other Requirements:

• Must be Highly Qualified according to state and federal standards to fill the position.
• Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arizona driver’s license.
• May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
• May be required to lift students weighing up to 60 pounds.
• Must be able to complete training in CPR, First Aid, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI), and specialized training for students with disabilities.
