Job summary

Collins Middle School in Salem, MA, is hiring a Special Education Teacher for the STRIDE program for SY 2026-2027. The role involves teaching students with disabilities in a substantially separate program and supporting them in inclusive general education settings in line with IEPs.

The candidate will collaborate with special and general education teams, develop and implement IEPs, monitor progress, and communicate with families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required; Masters preferred.
• Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Special Education.
• SEI Endorsement required within 1 year of start date.
• Safety Care trained or willing to be trained.
• Ability to meet MA standards and indicators of effective teaching.
• Physically capable of restraint, bending and lifting as needed.
• Second language (Spanish/Portuguese) a plus.
• Bilingual candidates and candidates of color encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Oversee programming for students in substantially separate and/or general education settings.
• Provide specialized instruction aligned to Common Core standards and curriculum maps.
• Develop data-taking mechanisms with classroom team to drive instruction.
• Maintain positive relationships and manage behavior with evidence-based strategies.
• Collaborate with families and agencies to improve student outcomes and develop IEPs.
• Write effective IEPs with SMART goals and generate progress reports.
• Administer and interpret evaluations; remote assessments when needed.
• Present progress during IEP and team meetings.
• Support paraprofessionals and ensure consistent program implementation.
• Embed SEL strategies and use technology to enhance learning.
• Modify materials to meet each student's needs per IEPs.
• Other duties as assigned by building leadership.
