Responsibilities

  • Maintains order and discipline in his/her classroom.
  • Prepares for cases assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student group.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the school system’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, system policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  • Maks provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and department meetings.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Provides for his/her professional growth through an ongoing program of special education workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Maintains and supports all Special Education Federal and State requests.
  • Performs such other duties as the principal may determine.

Principal and Senior Director of Special Education

FLSA STATUS:

Exempt

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  2. Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in Special Education
  3. Other qualifications as the board may require
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Creates a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth of students enrolled in an educational setting. Establishes effective rapport with students and motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation on becoming a responsible citizen in accordance with each students' ability.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity are required to perform job responsibilities.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with evaluation procedures and Board policy.
