The Education Program offers services to students with disabilities in Multi-Categorical Instruction, Transition and Work-Based Learning. The Multi-Categorical Instruction Program provides students, ages 5-21, an inclusive approach designed for instructors to work with students on a curriculum addressing comprehensive, grade-level learning across subjects. The Transition Program offers instruction in areas of functional life skills, community involvement, pre-employment skills and daily living following the completion of 12th grade at a traditional high school. The Work-Based Learning Program helps students ages 18-21 gain real-world job experience while still receiving educational support. Students participate in hands-on learning opportunities in the community where they can develop workplace skills, explore careers and build independence.
The Special Education Teacher supervises specially trained paraprofessionals who work with individuals to provide an individualized program best suited to their needs, strengths, preferences and interests. The teacher plans and facilitates learning for the students. The teacher assists in establishing a positive learning environment while also maintaining progress and attendance records. The teacher will work collaboratively with students, parents, staff and other Individual Education Program team members to provide and implement the services to meet the needs of each student. The teacher ensures that a safe environment is maintained with clearly defined expectations with consistent procedures and routines.
