Job description

Bismarck Public Schools is accepting applications for Special Education Teachers beginning the 2026-2027 School Year.

These positions are responsible for providing direct, specially designed instruction to students in elementary school or high school. This includes evaluation of students, writing IEPs, developing programming, collecting data and reporting progress.

This position will start August 14th 2026. New Teacher Orientation will be held August 11th, 12th and 13th.

A teaching contract is 187 days.

External candidates are allowed to bring in up to 17 years of contracted K - 12 teaching experience.

Performance Responsibilities: Essential Functions

• Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.
• Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and the emotional development of children.
• Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
• Plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students.

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated by the immediate supervisor.
• Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
• Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom and on the campus in a fair and just manner.
• Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
• Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with other staff members.
• Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning complying with Bismarck Public Schools' professional growth program.
