The Special Education Teacher assigned to an Intensive Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Program provides specially designed instruction and behavioral support for students with significant social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs. This position differs from a general education teaching role in its primary focus on individualized instruction, intensive behavior support, and therapeutic-informed practices necessary for students who require a highly structured and supported learning environment.
The teacher is a key member of a multidisciplinary student success team and is responsible for integrating academic instruction with social-emotional skill development to support student access, engagement, and progress.
In alignment with the NWRESD's mission statement, this position provides specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. The students served are enrolled in a self-contained classroom in a K-12 behavioral school setting. The Licensed Special Education Teacher collaborates with mental health professionals and support staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment where each student can achieve their full potential.
