Job summary

Rantoul City School Dst 137 is seeking a Special Education Teacher for Pleasant Acres Elementary School beginning 2026/27. The role develops and delivers specialized instruction for students with disabilities under district supervision.

Responsibilities include implementing IEPs, coordinating with general education staff, designing individualized plans, maintaining records, and collaborating with families to support student growth. Illinois teaching certification is required.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Bachelor's Degree and Special Education Illinois Teaching Certificate.
• Experience with curriculum design, planning and instruction.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives.
• Functions as IEP Manager to assigned students.
• Must have working knowledge of state and federal Special Education Law.
• Understands and complies with policies regarding Special Education Services.
• Act as coordinator of IEP implementation with general education staff.
• Provide an atmosphere conducive to the development of each student to ensure success.
• Develop, select and modify instructional plans to meet the needs of all students.
• Design individual and small group instruction.
• Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures.
• Manage classroom organization and supervise students in school settings.
• Communicate with students, parents, staff and community.
• Incorporate Common Core Standards into instruction.
• Coordinate instructions with other teachers of the school.
• Administer diagnostic assessments for progress and planning.
• Demonstrate knowledge of child development and effective instructional strategies.
• Work with administration and staff to schedule meetings.
• Participate in RtI process.
• Knowledge of Special Education research and best practices.
• Engage learners in differentiated experiences for varied skill levels and needs.
• Monitor pacing and budget class time; provide clear directions and closure.
