Job summary

Kalamazoo Prep Academy in Kalamazoo, MI seeks a full-time Special Education Teacher with Michigan certification and an endorsement in Special Education to support students ages 15-22. The school offers year-round, alternative diploma programming with half-day sessions, blended learning, and individualized education plans to help youth at risk access meaningful education and opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Michigan certification required.
• Endorsement in Special Education required.
• Experience developing and implementing IEPs for students with disabilities.
• Strong knowledge of best practices in special education and related research.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned to curriculum standards and diverse learning styles.
• Develop assessments, evaluate student performance, and use data to inform instruction.
• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
• Deliver direct instruction in various settings including one-on-one and small groups using evidence-based strategies.
• Provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports for students with disabilities.
• Collaborate with general education teachers and staff to ensure inclusion in all school activities and events.
• Monitor progress and adjust instruction as needed; maintain accurate records of student progress and services.
• Participate in professional development and stay current with best practices in special education.
