Job summary

Horry County Schools in Conway, SC is seeking a Special Education Teacher for Students with Hearing Impairments (DHH). You will provide instruction and related services to students with hearing impairments in accordance with laws and district policies.

Qualifications

• Valid South Carolina certification in special education for the hearing disabled.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate class roster of assigned students.
• Collaborate and coordinate interpreting services for assigned students, as necessary.
• Provide specialized direct instruction to students with hearing disabilities assigned to class roster.
• Assess current functioning levels of students with hearing disabilities.
• Establish and/or maintain Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for students with hearing disabilities.
• Establish long-term goals and short-term objectives for students with hearing disabilities.
• Consult with regular classroom teachers and administrators regarding students with hearing disabilities in their respective classrooms.
• Attend staffing and/or IEP meetings for students with hearing losses.
• Consult with audiologists regarding amplification equipment for students with hearing disabilities to use in the classroom.
• Assign and distribute auditory training equipment for students with hearing disabilities to use in the regular classroom.
• Refer students for medical or clinical treatment as needed.
• Attend staff development opportunities, as necessary.

Job Title: Teacher Students with Hearing Impairments

Supervisor: Coordinator of Special Education

Terms of Employment: 190 Days

Job Summary: Provide instruction, support, and related services to students with hearing impairments consistent with federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Essential Duties:

• Maintain accurate class roster of assigned students.
• Collaborate and coordinate interpreting services for assigned students, as necessary.
• Provide specialized direct instruction to students with hearing disabilities assigned to class roster.
• Assess current functioning levels of students with hearing disabilities.
• Establish and/or maintain Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for students with hearing disabilities.
• Establish long-term goals and short-term objectives for students with hearing disabilities.
• Consult with regular classroom teachers and administrators regarding students with hearing disabilities in their respective classrooms.
• Provide information regarding hearing loss, educational implications, psychological implications, behavioral implications, tips for classroom teachers, interpreter information/responsibilities, etc. to classroom teachers who have students with hearing losses in their classrooms.
• Interpret audiogram results for various staff and parents as needed.
• Observe students with hearing losses in the classroom/school setting as requested and provide feedback to staff and parents.
• Attend staffing and/or IEP meetings for students with hearing losses.
• Consult with audiologists regarding amplification equipment for students with hearing disabilities to use in the classroom.
• Assign and distribute auditory training equipment for students with hearing disabilities to use in the regular classroom.
• Refer students for medical or clinical treatment as needed.
• Attend staff development opportunities, as necessary.

• Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids;
• Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; and
• Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
