Ocean Avenue LEARNing Academy in Old Lyme, CT seeks an exceptional special education teacher to support students with complex medical, developmental, and communication needs, building individualized instruction aligned to IEP goals.

You will collaborate with speech-language pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, nurses, and families to design inclusive learning experiences that promote communication, independence, and academic growth.

Qualifications

  • Connecticut Certification (065/165) or eligible for certification.
  • Experience with students with significant disabilities and complex communication needs.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices and PBIS or positive behavior support.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize evidence-based practices, assistive technology, and AAC systems to increase student engagement and independence.
  • Analyze student performance data and adapt instruction to maximize progress.

  • Collaborate with families, caregivers, and district teams to develop and implement comprehensive student support plans.

Qualifications
  • Connecticut Special Education Certification (065, 165, or appropriate endorsement) or eligibility for certification.
  • Experience working with students with significant disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, complex communication needs, multiple disabilities, and/or medically complex profiles preferred.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices, AAC, assistive technology, and positive behavior support approaches preferred.
