Full‑time. Kindle Education is an intentionally diverse 6th‑12th grade public charter school that aims to cultivate an equitable community of purposeful individuals prepared to navigate our current world and build our future. Our doors will open in the fall of 2023 with 132 6th and 7th grade students (66 per grade) in the Journal Square neighborhood of Jersey City, NJ. We will grow by one grade each subsequent year.
We are seeking a dynamic Special Education Teacher and Student Coach to help us forge a life‑changing school. This role will start in the summer of 2023.
As a founding Special Education Teacher and Student Coach at Kindle Education, you will play many roles. Education is best done as a team sport, and we can accomplish exponentially more through collaboration.
Collaborate with content teachers to modify curriculum and instruction in workshop‑style general education classes where students navigate multiple learning pathways and engage in hands‑on, project‑based learning; work with tutors to deliver in‑class academic and behavior supports; and provide push‑in and pull‑out instruction as required by students’ IEPs. Serve as an integral member of the team supporting students with special needs, working closely with parents/guardians and the Child Study Team and attending all IEP meetings.
Partner with parents to guide a small group of students as they find their spark, develop social‑emotional and metacognitive skills, set goals for life and learning, and build a sense of purpose through advisory sessions, one‑on‑one coaching sessions, family communication, and progress and data tracking. Ensure students receive the support they need to show consistent growth.
Model self‑directed growth for your peers by setting your own personalized goals with the support of a coach and peers, proactively supporting colleagues, and pitching in where needed to create an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
