Position Overview:

Cyrus Peirce Middle School seeks a dedicated and skilled Special Education Teacher to support students in grades 6-8 who require specialized instruction. The ideal candidate will provide evidence-based interventions, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and help students build the foundational skills necessary for academic success and independence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver specialized reading instruction to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in alignment with district and state standards.
• Develop and implement lesson plans tailored to students’ individual needs, focusing on reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and overall literacy skills.
• Use a variety of evidence-based instructional strategies, accommodations, and assistive technologies to support students with varying disabilities, including learning disabilities, developmental delays, and emotional/behavioral challenges.
• Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor progress toward IEP goals and maintain accurate records on student performance.
• Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement, independence, and success.
• Collaborate closely with general education teachers, special education staff, reading specialists, and other support personnel to align instructional strategies and resources.
• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress, strengths, and areas for improvement.
• Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development sessions, as required.

Job Requirements

• Qualifications:

  Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Literacy, Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  Massachusetts 5-8 Moderate Disabilities License

  Valid Massachusetts teaching certification with an endorsement in Moderate Disabilities (Grades 5-12) or Special Education required

  Experience in special education reading instruction, preferably with middle school students.

  Knowledge of specialized reading interventions, literacy assessments, and individualized instruction methods.

  Strong classroom management skills and ability to foster a structured and supportive learning environment.

  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a team-oriented approach.
