Job summary

Kulanu Academy in Village of Cedarhurst, NY seeks a Special Education Teacher to develop, plan, and implement curriculum and educational programs for students with diverse needs. You will monitor progress, communicate with parents, and maintain a positive classroom environment that supports learning and safety.

Responsibilities include using diagnostic and progress assessments, collaborating with related services and staff, and providing feedback to classroom personnel.

Qualifications

• Must have NY state initial certification (or NYS teaching credential).
• 1-3 years experience in field preferred.
• ABA experience a plus.

Job description

A Special Education Teacher will develop, plan, and implement curriculum lesson plans and educational programs for students. The teacher will track progress, communications with parents and maintain classroom management.

Core Functions:

• Make knowledge accessible to all students.

• Develop students’ cognitive capacity and respect for learning and maintain a classroom atmosphere conductive to learning.

• Maintain good order and respect among students, promote understanding of the school’s rules and values, safeguard health and safety, and develop relationships with and between students that are conducive to learning.

• Plan for and guide the learning process to help students achieve program objectives.

• Maintain an attractive and stimulating classroom environment and contribute to displays in the school.

• Implement useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures, and mark and assess students’ work and development.

• Establish a cooperative relationship with all assigned students and foster students’ self-esteem, motivation, and sense of civic responsibility.

• Maintain open lines of communication with parents and guardians.

• Engage in professional growth activities through an ongoing program of job-related knowledge and skill development.

• Work collaboratively with other classrooms, related services, classroom staff, and program personnel to achieve each individual student’s needs and goals and the overall purposes of the school program.

• Supervision and provide feedback to classroom staff.
