Job summary

Rivermont Schools in Roanoke, VA seeks a dedicated Special Education teacher to support students ages 6–21 in ABA-based classrooms. You will deliver daily instruction, develop IEPs, and collaborate with a clinical team to ensure individual progress.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or related field.
  • Active Virginia license with endorsement in Special Education (Adapted or General) or eligibility within 90 days of hire.
  • Minimum 1 year of classroom experience supporting students with autism or related disabilities.
  • Familiarity with IEP development, ABA principles, and PBS strategies.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver daily instruction across core subjects for a class of 4–8 students (ages 6–21) using ABA-based lesson plans.
  • Develop, review, and implement IEPs in compliance with IDEA; co-lead IEP meetings with families and district reps.
  • Apply PBS strategies; collect and analyze daily behavioral and academic data.
  • Collaborate with BCBAs, SLPs, and OTs embedded in the building.
  • Maintain compliance documentation and communication logs per state/accreditation requirements.

At Rivermont Schools, we provide specialized education for students ages 6-21 with emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges. Our Roanoke campus serves approximately 40 students across structured ABA-based classroom environments, supported by a dedicated clinical team.

What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field
  • Active VDOE license with endorsement in Special Education (Adapted Curriculum or General Curriculum) - or eligibility to obtain licensure within 90 days of hire
  • Minimum 1 year of classroom experience supporting students with autism, EBD, or related disabilities (student teaching counts)
  • Familiarity with IEP development, ABA principles, and positive behavior support strategies
  • Valid Virginia driver's license
What You'll Do
  • Deliver daily instruction across core academic subjects for a class of 4-8 students (ages 6-21) using individualized ABA-based lesson plans
  • Develop, review, and implement IEPs in compliance with IDEA; lead or co-lead IEP meetings with families and district representatives
  • Apply Positive Behavior Support (PBS) strategies; collect and analyze daily behavioral and academic data
  • Collaborate with BCBAs, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Occupational Therapists embedded in the building
  • Maintain compliance documentation and communication logs in line with state and accreditation requirements
