Job summary

Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents in New Kent, Virginia seeks a full-time Education Teacher to provide specialized instruction to students aged 2–22 with co-occurring medical and behavioral diagnoses. Responsibilities include delivering education according to regulations, completing documentation, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Must hold a K-12 Special Ed credential and Virginia license; CPR/First Aid; 3 years' related experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Special Education (Required) or Master's in Special Education with a specialty in Emotional Disturbances or Learning Disabilities.
• Certification in some form of special education for K-12: Special Ed General Curriculum, ED, SLD, or ID.
• Current Virginia State Teaching License.
• Three years related experience preferred.
• Experience with emotionally disturbed or physically disabled persons preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification required.
• Able to remain on feet throughout the shift.

Responsibilities

Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents, located in New Kent, Virginia, provides comprehensive medical, behavioral, rehabilitative, and educational services for children and adolescents ages 2 through 22 who are challenged by co-occurring medical and behavioral diagnoses. Cumberland Hospital is one of the few specialty children’s hospitals providing dual treatment protocols for both medical and mental health issues. Cumberland includes a 62 bed Hospital Program, a 16 bed Inpatient Acute Program, and 30 bed Residential Treatment Program. Our goal is to stabilize medical problems and help children develop positive behavioral coping strategies using an interdisciplinary approach.

We are currently looking for aFull-time Education Teacher.

Essential Job Duties

• Provides education to all students assigned according to State and Federal regulations
• Completes all documentation in a professional and timely manner.

• MUSThave a certification in some form of special education for K-12: Special Ed General Curriculum, Emotional Disturbances, Specific Learning Disabilities, or Intellectual Disabilities
• MUSThave current Virginia State Teaching License
• Three years related experience (preferred) with adolescents and children.
• Previous experience with emotionally disturbed or physically disabled persons preferred.
• Must be able to sustain physical activity throughout the scheduled shift, must be able to perform CPR and First Aid.
• Able to remain on feet throughout the scheduled shift

This is a YEAR ROUND POSITION, with a spring break and a Christmas break. School day is 8:30 am - 11:30 am and 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Hours are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday.
