Job summary

Coffee County School System invites applications for a Special Education Teacher position in Tennessee. The role requires a valid Tennessee teaching license with appropriate endorsements and Highly Qualified status where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares lesson plans and teaching strategies for course(s) of study taught.
  • Aligns course(s) curriculum taught and/or assessments with state and local curriculum standards.
  • Uses a variety of teaching strategies to facilitate student learning.
  • Plans a program of study that addresses the individual needs and abilities of the students.
  • Develops and maintains a school/classroom environment conducive to learning and socially appropriate for the age of students taught.
  • Analyzes and uses appropriate data to guide instruction and develop assessments.
  • Establishes and communicates clear expectations for all lessons, class work, and projects.
  • Assigns lessons routinely and corrects student work in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains good order in classroom and other areas of the school.
  • Supervises students at school related functions including on and off campus activities.
  • Consults with other professionals to address learning or behavioral problems with specific students.
  • Communicates with parents/guardian regularly through verbal and written form.
  • Assesses the progress of students on a regular basis, both formative and summative, and provides progress reports as required.
  • Schedules parent conferences as directed by the system as needed in particular cases; if necessary, outside school hours.
  • Keeps accurate attendance, academic performance, and IEP records for assigned students.
  • Reports to the appropriate administrative and/or consultative personnel when knowledgeably or suspicious that a child's health or welfare has been or appears to be at risk.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Participates in school level faculty meetings, system professional development and in-service meetings.
