Job summary

San Diego Center for Children seeks a dedicated teacher for SDCC Academy to support academic, social, and emotional growth. You will implement district-aligned curricula and coordinate with a multidisciplinary team to tailor instruction to each student’s needs.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required and credentialed to teach in California.
Mild/Moderate Teaching Credential required.
Valid California Driver’s License.
Intern status eligible for credential program.
Experience with students with special needs and multicultural awareness.

Responsibilities

Plan and implement curriculum per school district and state requirements.
Review student records, IEPs, and develop individual plans.
Create and deliver lesson plans with diverse teaching methods.
Collaborate with related services weekly (speech, OT, counseling) on IEPs.
Maintain documentation of student progress and incidents.
Participate in trainings and faculty meetings annually.

Summary

Responsible for educational, physical and emotional development of students attending SDCC Academy and perform in a manner consistent with achieving overall organizational objectives. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Plan and develop course of study according to curriculum guidelines of school district and state requirements. Actual curriculum must address the individual needs of students.

Review psychological reports and IEPs (Individual Education Plan) on assigned students.

Write, present and implement students’ IEPs (Individual Education Plan).

With students 16 years of age and over, write, present and implement student's ITPs (Individual Transition Plans).

Develop and present specific lesson plans, using a variety of techniques, including, but not limited to, lectures, projects, exhibits, field trips, audiovisual and library resources, computers, and the internet.

Conduct standardized tests in accordance with district policies and state law.

Maintain order and safety in classroom using practices established by SDCC Academy.

Counsel students when academic difficulties or behavioral problems arise.

Keep records of academic performance, attendance, and social development.

Report on all aspects of student development for school records and parents; conducts parent-teacher conferences as scheduled and as needed.

Participate in faculty meetings, educational conferences, professional training seminars, and workshops.

Collaborate with DIS - speech and language, occupational therapy, and counseling on a weekly basis.

Collaborate with DIS - speech and language, occupational therapy, and counseling when developing an annual IEP and prior to reporting periods.

Keep clear and concise documentation of children’s progress through completion of progress notes and incident reports.

Participate in annual training of physical restraints of students and use only when student is presenting a physical threat to himself or others.

Report any physical restraint through a written form and orally to administration as soon as possible.

Create a positive physical and emotional environment.

Act as case manager for each student in your classroom.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No direct supervisory responsibilities. However, the Teacher indirectly supervises Instructional Assistants assigned to the classroom.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret medical records, journals, reports, and legal documents; Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community; Ability to effectively present information to management and public groups
